I'm sure the legal age to buy alcohol is 21, however I believe you can still visit the bar, as they also have outdoor seating and are a smallish cozy place.
Cool little place, lots of beer choices and a full bar. Love walking in and seeing all the dogs!
Dive bar as advertised.. can't wait to go back tomorrow though, it's around the corner. The bartender was great and so friendly. Very decent prices and looooved the ambiance..
Great spot to come in for a drink! And sometimes there's a pop-up out front serving delicious food.
We stopped by Black Penny on our way to our hotel and were glad to find a change of pace in the French Quarter. A little quieter with a more local vibe and with bartenders willing to take a few minutes to explain the drink menu and give local suggestions. We really liked the vibe!
Here for a pop-up Vietnamese Style Crawfish Event; we journeyed in to wait for the crawfish order to be ready. Basic bar, with seemingly familiar to the place 'bar flys' as I know this is a frequent stop during Mardi Gras Festivities. The crowd here on a Thursday night was plentiful, idk if that was because of the Crawfish or if this was the norm; either way, we blended in and enjoyed the night. Bartenders were friendly as were the patrons. Indoors there were 4-5 table & seating areas for you to cop-a-squat and be a lookie-lou or enjoy your company, whatever your pleasure. Lots of eclectic decor to feast your eyes on. Quite dimly lit, but it helps to set the mood though. Drink prices were fair & the drinks were tasty as well. I'm not a fan of game hunting and my hope is that the BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED RHINO HEAD on the wall near the restrooms was a fake.
Back again during mardi gras..beer selection is even better.
Great beer selection! Mellow atmosphere, on the edge of the quarter. Knowledgeable bar staff.
We stopped here before heading over to the Voodoo Lounge for our ghost tour. It's tiny but homey feeling, with a ton of great beers offered, including local brews! It was a nice quick stop! They also have fun pop up food trucks/restaurants nightly for food options, so we'll be sure to check that out next time!
Neat atmosphere! My friends and I stopped in quickly after dying from the heat outside and wanting to get a refreshing (non-alcoholic) drink to tide us over.We order lemonade, and it was absolutely delicious. Cold, sweet, and refreshing!Dogs seem to be allowed, which was a bit of a surprise, but they’ve got to stay cool too!
Tons of beer choices... Beautiful Park across the street, and it's true...Rhett's hair is perfect. I don't know him, but guessed it right off the bat.Stopped in for a bathroom break, ended up staying for a couple beers.Prices are quite reasonable, and the awesome breeze blowing through the open air bar was stellar!
Awesome bar. Ask for a guide named DJ
Was very drunk when I got here and had just spent a lot of money on a hat for my mother. I thought it would look nice on her in the summer when she's gardening and it provides a lot of shade while being breathable. It was enough that I needed a drink afterwards. Then I had a couple more and I knew I had to stop or I wasn't going to be able to find my way back to The Lookout.
Very cool. The decor and location are perfect for a quick beer or a good mix of locals and tourists.
Great local bar with a open-style saloon type of vibe. Good beer and wine list. Super friendly bartender. The bar is dog-friendly so if that isn't your thing, consider going elsewhere. I loved it. Everyone was very friendly. You can sit at the bar or there are a few large booths to accommodate groups. I would definitely go back. #localspot #happyhour #drinkoutside
Black Penny is by far one of my favorite spots to hang. If it's a quick drink or to hang out for a night, I'm never disappointed. And, if you carry Old Overholt, I'm pretty much guaranteed to frequent...but the vibe and atmosphere at Black Penny makes it an easy decision.
Great bartender. Good fun. Very helpful. Enjoyed the decor. Lots of atmos ,😊
When ever I visit New Orleans I find my self here, three or four times. Great feeling inside, customers, and staff. Fantastic beer selection.!
Nice selection of beers, including some nice locals I haven't seen elsewhere. Cynthia has an encyclopedic knowledge of alcohol, totally fascinating. I learned more about absinthe in ten minutes than I learned in the last ten years. Oh and she's sarcastic and has a bit of a wicked streak,. Awesome. Definitely the Queen of the place.
Excellent selection of beers and spirits. The location makes this bar a must visit when coming to town. Louis Armstrong Park across the street and Bourbon Street a few blocks down the road. A few sips taken out of the Old Fashioned pictured...its good strong drink for a rough day.
The new taco pop up at Black Penny is PHENOMENAL! So.so good! Complete with homemade salsa bar. Open late fri & sat. Supports local service industry (we're all in this together right) not to be missed 😋
Great off of Bourbon locals bar. Huge selection of beers.
Not a fancy place, but a pretty cool place to hang out and have some drinks.
Super cool location and many different craft beers to choose from. Bartender was friendly, funny, and real. Prices were average compared to similar bars. Would go back.
Cool, relaxed local bar. Good service. Great beer selection.
Great beer, great service.
Located on the edge of the French Quarter. Is housed in what may have been an old carriage room/stable. Feels pretty historic with y'all ceilings. Friendly bartender who knows a lot about the building and NOLA. Cool spot to stop for a drink away from the hubbub of Bourbon Street.
The whole time down in new Orleans our last stop of the nite ..love the staff and atmosphere
